CHAPTER FIFTEEN: COLE

When I wake up on Saturday morning, I grab my phone from my bedstand and go to send Emma a good morning message –

Shit, I don’t have her number.

How the hell could I have forgotten to ask her for her number last night?

I drop my phone on my bed next to me and lay back on my pillow. Damn. I guess I was so caught up in the moment with her that I didn’t even think of it. Little procedural details like that can slip your mind when you’re falling in lo—

What the hell am I about to say?

Am I really about to say that I was falling in love with Emma?

I mean, I did wake up with texting her being the first thing on my mind. Usually when I’m with a girl, I could care less if I even see her again the next morning—much less am I thinking about texting her. But here I am wanting to send a freaking good morning text before I’m even out of bed.

But falling in love? Just because we had a nice date?

Honestly, I had pretty much written off the possibility of me ever actually falling in love at this point. I felt I was too jaded for something so ideal to ever happen to me.

Falling in love? No way. Sure, I want to see her again. Shit, I really want to see her again. I wish she were in my bed with me right now.

But I need to pump the breaks and hold off on that L-word.

Shit, I sure wish I had her number, though.

All weekend I spend as much time outside as I can.

We’re almost out of paper towels? Better go to the most popular grocery store off campus to pick some up. And stop by a couple busy pharmacies to just to see if they might not have better prices. Hey, did I leave my notebook in Sociology class on Friday? Better walk across campus and double check.

Of course, the real reason I’m thinking of every excuse to get outside and hang around the places that are busiest on the weekend is because I’m hoping to see Emma.

A chance run-in out of nowhere with Emma Pearson isn’t exactly the least likely occurrence, the last couple weeks have taught me that.

Unfortunately, this time, no such luck. I don’t see her anywhere all weekend long.

Oh well, once Monday comes and the week starts, I’m sure our paths will cross on campus. No doubt about it.

Last night was our first date, but if she thinks it’s going to be our last, she’s badly mistaken.
